WILMINGTON,NC (WWAY) -- WWAY’s Friday night sports segment featured the Wilmington Sea Dawgs semi-pro basketball team at home against Big Texas. We also went to Brooks Field to check out UNCW against Hofstra in a battle of the top two teams in the CAA. We even featured high school baseball action between Laney and New Hanover, as well as previously undefeated Wilmington Christian. We also gave an update on former UNCW golf standout Josh Brock after the third round of the Championship at St. James Plantation. Brock is in second place, one shot off the lead, going into the final round. UNCW SWIMMER HANNAH STEPHENSON AND DIVER JT PERRYMAN RECEIVED CAA ROOKIE-OF-THE-YEAR HONORS ON FRIDAY. UNCW SWIMMING & DIVING HEAD COACH DAVE ALLEN WAS NAMED CAA MEN'S COACH-OF-THE-YEAR. IT IS THE NINTH TIME AND FIFTH CONSECUTIVE YEAR THAT DAVE ALLEN HAS BEEN AWARDED CAA COACH-OF-THE-YEAR HONORS. NEW HANOVER HEAD FOOTBALL COACH KEVIN MOTSINGER HAS BEEN HONORED FOR EXEMPLARY SPORTSMANSHIP BY THE NCHSAA. MOTSINGER WAS SELECTED FOR THE HOMER THOMPSON MEMORIAL “EIGHT WHO MAKE A DIFFERENCE AWARD.” HE WILL RECEIVE HIS AWARD AT THE SMITH CENTER IN CHAPEL HILL ON MAY 3RD. THE JORDAN BRAND HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL CLASSIC TAKES PLACES ON SATURDAY IN CHARLOTTE. NEW HANOVER SENIOR KADEEM ALLEN WILL SUIT UP FOR THE NORTH CAROLINA EAST REGIONAL TEAM. NEW HANOVER HEAD BASKETBALL COACH KIRK ANGEL WILL COACH THE NORTH CAROLINA EAST REGIONAL SQUAD. IN HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS SOCCER ACTION, PENDER DEFEATED TRASK 4-0 ON FRIDAY. IN HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL, PENDER BEAT TRASK 9-4 ON FRIDAY. HERE ARE FRIDAY’S HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL SCORES: TRASK 11 - PENDER 0 WILSON CHRISTIAN 7 - WILMINGTON CHRISTIAN 4 NEW BERN 8 - ASHLEY 3 LANEY 4 - NEW HANOVER 3 IN COLLEGE BASEBALL ACTION, UNCW DEFEATED HOFSTRA 10-3 ON FRIDAY. TYLER MCSWAIN PICKED UP THE WIN FOR THE SEAHAWKS. HUNTER RIDGE WENT 3 FOR 4 FROM THE PLATE AND RECORDED 2 RBI FOR UNCW. THE UNCW BASEBALL TEAM WILL HOST HOFSTRA IN GAME 2 OF THEIR SERIES AT BROOKS FIELD ON SATURDAY AT 2PM. THE UNCW WOMEN'S TENNIS TEAM DEFEATED UNC GREENSBORO 4-3 AT HOME ON FRIDAY. THE SEAHAWKS CLOSED OUT THE REGULAR SEASON WITH A 14-6 OVERALL RECORD. IN SEMI-PRO BASKETBALL, BIG TEXAS CAME BACK TO BEAT THE WILMINGTON SEA DAWGS 100-93 ON FRIDAY NIGHT. JAMES RHODES LED THE SEA DAWGS WITH 24 POINTS IN THE LOSS. IN NBA ACTION, THE MIAMI HEAT BEAT UP ON THE CHARLOTTE BOBCATS 105-82. THE UNCW SOFTBALL TEAM TRAVELS TO TOWSON FOR A DOUBLEHEADER TOMORROW, STARTING AT NOON. UNCW TRACK & FIELD WILL TRAVEL TO CONWAY, SC TOMORROW FOR THE COASTAL CAROLINA CLASSIC.
