Simple answer - because there is a lot of county outside the city and we who live in the county want no part of Wilmington. The LAST thing we want is more and bigger government, because if you think consolidation would save one dime, you're fooling yourself.
Since I moved back here in 1993 we have had two referendums on the issue, and both times the idea has been voted down. I sincerely hope that we exist as two separate entities as long as I'm here, because like most county residents, I want nothing to do with that swinepit den of corruption.
