Woman charged with murder after allegedly running down another with car

ELIZABETHTOWN, NC (WWAY) -- A woman is dead after being run over by a car early yesterday morning in Bladen County.

Elizabethtown Police Chief Robert Kinlaw said Vanessa Jones, 50, of Bladenboro was believed to be visiting family at 310 Martin Street in Elizabethtown. Kinlaw said an argument got out of hand early yesterday morning, and Brittany Williams, 25, allegedly ran over jones.

"After investigating, we learned that there had been some dispute between the driver of the vehicle and the family members of the victim," Chief Kinlaw said. "It appears that she intentionally ran over the victim. She was charged with second degree murder."

Williams is in the Bladen County Jail under a $100,000 secured bond. The case is still under investigation.

Jones's body has been sent to Chapel Hill for an autopsy.
