Troopers find hundreds of violations during Azalea Festival weekend sting


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Azalea Festival weekend was a busy one for state troopers, who found more than 560 violations during Operation Bearclaw in New Hanover and Brunswick Counties.

Troopers cited 137 for reckless driving, and 119 for driving while impaired. There were nine citations for driving after consuming under 21, and six more had drug or drug paraphernalia violations.

There were also 29 seat belt violations, 36 equipment violations and 52 registration violations.
