This is a sad day in NC. As an independent voter I am frustrated by the lack of research that goes into decision-making. Fracking is an extreme way of gleaning natural gas that data shows causes several problems. The chemically loaded water runs off into the water table poisoning nearby water supplies (you can light the water). The toxic chemicals released from the blasted rock and released gas affect adults, but moreso children. There is a high correlation between fracking and increasing number of earthquakes (300 in Oklahoma, e.g.). Yet, setting all of that aside, fracking takes a huge amount of water out which cannot go back into the drinking supply. Water is a dear commodity as shown during our water shortage of three years ago. We must move away from fossil fuels today and toward alternative forms of energy and conservation.
