ALBERTSON, N.C. (AP) -- Authorities are trying to figure out what caused a pickup truck carrying eight people to crash in Duplin County.

Three people were killed and five were injured in the crash at the intersection of state Highways 111 and 903 near the community of Albertson on Monday.

State Highway Patrol officials say 51-year-old Winslow Hardy of Sharpsburg, 33-year-old Levy Martel Allen of Wilson and 46-year-old Eric Maurice Alsten of Wilson were dead at the scene.

They were among five people riding in the bed of the pickup when it crashed.
