I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you might want to verify some things on the headline of this vote. There is already a law in NC that bans same-sex marriage. This amendment if passed could have ramifications on everybody who is not married. It states that the only recognized union is the legal marriage between one man and one woman. So what about the heterosexual couples in a common law marriage, or the victims of domestic violence that would be ignored because the abuse was not from their spouse. Not to mention all of the people that will lose health insurance because their domestic partnership is not recognized in this state. It could result in the inability for anyone to have joint accounts of any sort (car insurance, bank, home loans) with someone who is not their spouse or immediate dependent. There are several companies stating they would leave the state if their employees rights were taken away. If this amendment passes it changes a lot of things, if it doesn't, nothing changes. All this amendment does is take away rights, it doesn't give same-sex couples any advancement towards legal marriage.
