The way Amendment One is written, it goes so far beyond banning same-sex marriage that it risks penalizing all couples. There are plenty of people who might want to define marriage as between a man and a woman but not, for example, remove domestic violence protections for unmarried women, which is just one of the many ways Amendment One will hurt North Carolinians if it's enacted.
