Nathan Faulk named Laney basketball coach

WILMINGTON,NC (WWAY) - Pending school board approval Nathan Faulk will take over the boys basketball program at Laney High School. Faulk replaces veteran coach Fred Lynch who will remain at the school as the athletics director. Faulk actually served as an assistant basketball coach at Laney under Fred Lynch in the early 2000's. "I'm honored to be replacing a man who has served as a mentor, friend, and father figure to me over the past 12 years," Faulk said. "It is humbling to think I am the third coach in Laney history and taking the place of a man who has roamed the sidelines for 25+ years. The Laney name, brand and history is very special. I'm lucky to now be part of that again."

Nathan Faulk is a graduate of UNC Wilmington. He's currently the boys basketball coach at South View High School in Cumberland County. The Nakina native was the head coach at South Columbus High prior to South View. Both schools showed a great amount of improvement in basketball under Faulk's guidance.

Nathan Faulk is also the head basketball coach of the Flight 22 basketball team that historically features several players from Wilmington. Flight 22 is considered to be one of the best teams on the spring/summer circuit in the southeast. Here's a link to WWAY's story on Flight 22's tournament title this past weekend.

Nathan Faulk will be featured on the Coach's Corner on Sunday. Check out Laney's new head basketball coach on WWAY at 6pm on Sunday.
