NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- What started as a stolen vehicle investigation, led to a chase that began in Pender County and ended in New Hanover County Thursday night. Once the suspect took off on foot, the SABLE helicopter was called out to help with the search.
It began after Surf City Police tried to stop the driver of a stolen Chevy pickup truck.
Once on Hwy 17, Pender County Sheriff's deputies took over the chase, staying on the heels of the truck into New Hanover County on I-140
The female suspect slammed over the end of I-140, punched the brakes, and bailed from the truck on foot.
Thanks to SABLE's infrared camera, authorities pinpointed the suspect, 48-year-old Betsy Elizabeth Shaw.
Shaw was arrested around 9 p.m. and charged with reckless to endanger, failure to heed lights and siren, possession of a stolen vehicle and fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle.
Shaw also had nine outstanding warrants which include unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, felony larceny of motor vehicle, three counts of failure to appear for obtaining property by false pretense, felony probation violation, two counts of obtaining property by false pretense and harassing phone calls. Shaw was given a $127,000 secured bond.
