Williams wins GOP nomination for Brunswick Co. Commission District 5

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- The Brunswick County Commission District 5 Republican race went to Brunswick County native Frank Williams. The seat has been held by long-time commissioner and current commission chair Bill Sue.

Williams beat retired Brunswick County Health Director Don Yousey with 67 percent of the vote.

"It's been a long campaign, and I've enjoyed getting out and traveling the county and getting to meet people all over the county," Williams said. "It's certainly a hard earned victory. I've had a lot of supporters that have helped me, and it's not a one person show. It's been a great team effort."

Williams will take on Democrat Michael Ballard in November.

"I'm excited. I'm looking forward to actually getting some sleep the next few days, and then we'll look ahead to November," Williams said. "I'm excited and humbled."
