Local cooking competition heats up the coast

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) -- Fire On The Dock is not an emergency call, it is a local cooking contest. Cacky Catlett was a guest judge Wednesday night at Shell Island Resort.

In the style of Iron Chef, local chefs go head to head preparing courses with a secret ingredient, announced just before the entrees are served.

Diners, along with culinary experts and guest judges vote on the winner. The competition in the kitchen is intense.

The event's promoter Jimmy Crippen says it comes down to the details.

“I always say one dish will make you or break you, right now we have had four courses there's two left and in my opinion they have all been equally wonderful, so I'm waiting to see if anyone slips up on these final two courses we'll see.”

Kirsten Mitchell with Cameo 1900 edged out Kyle McKnight with the soon-to-open, Swim With The Fish.
