Adult Day Care Trying to Keep Doors Open

LELAND-- An adult day care facility in Brunswick County is stuggling to keep it's doors open. There are a number of factors at play here, but those families who use the service say it's very badly needed. Some local elderly people call the Adult Day Services facility home at least for the day. The population of the U.S and in Brunswick County is getting older and many people are seeking care outside of their home. The lack of funding and community support may force the facility to shut down. Program Director, Caralee Cottle says "people aren't that familiar with it, so not only am i dealing with an education curve but also from a financial stand point being able to do the marketing and the things that need to be done to keep it going." The day care has been open for about a year now. Cottle says that she hoped "this would become a family business that would sustain time in the community and provide support not only for us but in the community as well." The purpose of the day care is a way to provide seniors with a sense of independence. To continue serving the elderly, the facility would need about fifteen clients a day but most of the time only four show. Adult Day Services will be hosting a health fair at it's location. 1107 New Pointe Bld., Suite 5 Leland, N.C. 28451 Contact: Caralee Cottle (910)383-3959
