A viable taxpaying business in Wilmington is welcome. Go privately funded baseball! Is the city in the baseball business?
Also, we have a fantastic opportunity to develop large tracts of prime riverfront property that is the entrance of our city.
Do we need the taxpayer to do this? Don't forget the taxpayer has built and is currently running a convention center in this area today. In contrast, look at PPD.
Do we want to use this land to build a taxpayer funded and taxpayer debt secured baseball stadium? The cost over 30 years will be overwhelming to the city taxpayer.
When you study the bottom line cost figures, the hidden & overall costs, the long term liabilities, it does NOT appear a sound investment. This certainly is NOT a sound taxpayer investment, NOT in this economic climate. The return to the taxpayer and the community cannot begin to offset these hard hitting costs.
As an investment to the taxpayer, I say: Run,taxpayer run!
