Bomb threat outside NC nuclear power plant false

READ MORE:

RALEIGH, NC (AP) -- Officials at a nuclear power plant in Wake County say a bomb threat reported just outside the gates turned out to be false.

Progress Energy spokesman Mike Hughes said Friday that a contract worker leaving the Shearon Harris plant saw an SUV parked near the gate with the hood up and a couple inside who appeared to be arguing. Hughes said the worker was told there was a bomb inside the vehicle, and he notified plant security.

The plant was locked down and Wake County sheriff's deputies responded. The two people were detained, and Hughes said one was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

Hughes said neither person was an employee of the plant, which is approximately 20 miles southwest of downtown Raleigh.
