Sailors rescued near Cape Hatteras coast

CAPE HATTERAS (WWAY) -- Two sailors were rescued Monday morning 30 miles east off the coast of Cape Hatteras after their yacht began to flood.

It happened around 3 a.m. Monday morning. A crew member aboard the vessel contacted the Coast Guard to report that they were in need of assistance.

Several North Carolina Coast Guard crews helped to first rescue the sailors, and then stop the flooding aboard the vessel.

A multiple Coast Guard unit towing evolution was able to get the yacht to the safe haven of Beaufort, NC.
