Commissioners question Berger's travel, attendance

READ MORE:

WILMINGTON, NC (www.starnewsonline.com) -- Some New Hanover County Commissioners plan to address attendance and travel issues with Commissioner Brian Berger.

At a meeting Thursday, Chairman Ted Davis suggested the board adopt a travel policy that requires commissioners to reimburse the county for hotel rooms or conference registration fees when a hotel room wasn't used or a conference was missed.

Davis said Berger has booked hotel rooms at taxpayers' expense and didn't show up to use them on several separate occasions. Last year, he didn't show up for nights booked at hotel rooms when attending annual meetings for both the National Association of Counties and the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners. Most recently, he missed the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners' annual Assembly Day held May 30 in Raleigh.
