City, county to add Cape Fear Utility Authority jobs

READ MORE:
WILMINGTON -- Wilmington City Council meets Tuesday night. One item on the agenda is approving nearly $1 million to help fix the troubled sewer system. City Council will approve the funds to go to the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority. The organization is a merger between the city and county water and sewer. The money will go to help with start up costs. The authority will require eight new positions including a general manager and a public information officer. County officials say they are already interviewing for positions. It's confirmed that employees working for both county and city water and sewer will still keep their jobs, but the agency requires added department heads. The base salary for those eight jobs alone: about $1 million a year. It's not just the city that's funding this. They're matching the funds that county commissioners approved last night for the new cape fear public utility authority. While it may seem like a lot of money officials say the authority has potential to save money down the line.
