Okay, let us ask how much race promoters make? Tons of Money! Notice the influx of races lately? Take it from someone who has run weekend races of all types, for years.
Now, let's examine what happens when we have any type of organized race along public streets?
Cops get pulled from typical tax-payer duties and instead have to man intersections along Eastwood, and various streets, not to mention the numerous CLOSED streets.
(When we first moved to Wilmington, there was a few lightly attended races, now it is a very common weekend activity.)
I say it helps to defray the cost when streets have to be closed or when Intersections have to be manned by the police, for Public Safety.
My problem with it is that the City should be asking the promoters to defray the costs because they collect fees from participants, who in turn should pay for public service. Why Not?
