NASHVILLE, Tenn (WKRN) -- The ABC affiliate in Nashville, WKRN, is reporting emergency crews were called to the scene of an explosion during a sheriff's convention at the Opryland Hotel. The explosion was reported around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. The National Sheriff's Association annual conference was being held at the hotel. Homeland Security was called to the scene. Early reports indicated there was a mechanical explosion in one of the hotel's ballrooms. No injuries were reported and the building was evacuated. Significant damage was reported in the hotel. Brunswick County Chief Deputy, Charlie Miller, says he spoke to Sheriff John Ingram and says Ingram is fine. New Hanover County's sheriffs spokesman, Sergeant Jerry Brewer, says Sheriff Ed McMahon is not at the conference but a lieutenant with the department is. Sergeant Brewer is working to get an update on the lieutenant's status. We will bring you more information as it becomes available.
