Having the right of way doesn't absolve you of responsibility in an accident. About fifteen years ago, my sister was involved in an accident. She was pulling out from a side road when a man hit her. He was citing for failure to reduce speed in order to prevent an accident. He thought, like you did, that since he was on the right of way that if he hit her that she would get the ticket, but it doesn'twork that way.
