Disclaimer:I'm a active duty living in Wilmington, working at Lejeune.
As I watched the former 1st Sgt from the veterans assosiation on the 5 clock today, he proclaimed" while most people are cooking out and going to the beach, but today is about those who came before, who are doing it now, and those who will do it" or something like that.
While the 4th is def a patriotic holiday, this is not Memorial day. People should be able to kick up some steak and play football at the beach, and beers shall be drank without another guilt trip. The 4th is about us putting our boot up Britain's ass and celebrating all those American things I mentioned above.
If you want to get uppidy and argue that is was the continental army the got us this freedom, I'll say it was just as much the common people sending their fathers and sons away as irregular militias and guerrilas to defeat the brits. This is everyone's holiday.
