WILMINGTON,NC (Hammerheads news release) -- The Wilmington Hammerheads are facing off with the Rochester Rhinos at Legion Stadium on Thursday, July 12, at 7:30 p.m. for the second time this season. Currently, the Hammerheads are trailing two ranks behind the Rhinos in the league standings; totaling a difference of six points.

The Hammerheads and Rhinos met once already this season prior to their upcoming match. In June, the Hammerheads traveled north for back-to-back matches; Rochester on a Friday, followed by Harrisburg on Saturday. The Hammerheads took a 1-1 draw while in Rochester at Sahlen’s Stadium when Paul Nicholson evened the score in the 66th minute after Rochester’s Tyler Rosenlund’s goal at the 30-minute mark.

Many opportunities were lost while few were won the last time these two teams encountered one another, keeping a fairly equalized match. Since then the Hammerheads have gained many assets to their squad. The Hammerheads have extended forward Corey Hertzog’s loan from the NY Red Bulls and have signed Real Salt Lake’s Cody Arnoux and UNC-Charlotte’s Charles Rodriguez.

As the Rochester Rhinos make entry into Legion Stadium on Thursday, the Hammerheads will be looking to heavily defend their winning run to remain unbeaten on their home turf this season thus far.

WILMINGTON,NC (WWAY) -- Wilmington native and tennis pro Lenny Simpson hosted a free tennis clinic for kids in the Port City on Tuesday morning.

The event was held at the MLK Center tennis courts where Simpson played years ago.

Simpson was inducted into the Greater Wilmington Sports Hall of Fame two months ago. On Tuesday he came home to give back to his community. Despite the heat, the pro coached the kids while they had some fun. "What I like about tennis is you can enjoy hitting the ball and exploring with friends," camper Shakim Murphy said.

Some other locally-known tennis players helped out with the clinic, too. Simpson says it's exciting to think that one of the kids who participated today might go pro just like he did.

KANSAS CITY, MO (AP) -- Pablo Sandoval and Melky Cabrera keyed a five-run blitz against Justin Verlander in the first inning Tuesday night, and the National League romped to an 8-0 win over the American League and its third straight All-Star game victory.

Giants teammate Matt Cain started a strong NL pitching performance, combining with 10 relievers on a six-hitter that extended the American League's scoreless streak to 14 innings - its longest since 1995-97.

Sandoval hit the first bases-loaded triple in an All-Star game, and Ryan Braun and Dan Uggla also drove in runs against Verlander, who couldn't control his 100 mph heat.

Cabrera singled and scored the first run, then hit a two-run homer against Matt Harrison in the fourth as the NL rolled to the third-largest margin of victory in All-Star history.
