WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The Cape Fear produces lots of great athletes who are also great people. NFL player Jay Ross is one of them.
Ross is a New Hanover High alum who is now playing for the Buffalo Bills. Saturday, Ross held his annual free football camp at the Martin Luther King center in Wilmington. Ross says while the drills are about footwork and football, he hopes the lessons the kids learn help them on and off the field.
"A lot of these kids out here, I'm teaching them how to grow up and be men,” Ross said. “I'm telling them to be positive and listen to their teachers, do good in school and listen to their parents. Because, believe it or not, a lot of them don't have male figures in their lives."
Ross hopes he can be a good role model for the kids. He said many participants are repeats, so he feels the one-day camp does have a lasting impact.
