You assume that law enforcement officers receive preferential treatment with regards to having their court cases continued. You would be incorrect. As an officer that deals primarily with DWIs, the vast majority of ALL my cases are continued multiple times and extend out past a year. I have very few cases in which the court case is adjudicated in less than a year. It is standard practice for attorneys to push court dates out as long as possible in order to allow their clients the opportunity to comply with all needed assessments and fines ahead of time. Don't assume. Ask for clarification.
