Belville leaders meet for first time since Batson's resignation

BELVILLE, NC (WWAY) -- Belville commissioners met Monday night for the first time since Jack Batson quit as mayor.

Batson turned in his handwritten letter of resignation at a special meeting a little more than a week ago, after disagreements with fellow commissioners over merger talks with Leland.

Mayor Pro-Tem Charles Bost said leaders are now just focused on moving the town forward.

"We thank Mayor Batson for his service and the things that he did do,” Bost said. "There were some distractions, but we realized we need to do the business of the town. We got a lot of things done. It was a very good, productive meeting."

Former Mayor Pro-Tem Mike Allen is now serving as mayor, which means the commission needs one more member.

Leaders are accepting applications from Belville residents through August 20 and hope to have a decision by next month's meeting.
