GOLDSBORO, NC (AP) -- Gov. Bev Perdue has signed a bill to help people connected to the military receive state occupational licenses to perform specialized work in North Carolina.

Perdue signed the bill Tuesday during a ceremony in a veterans' park in Goldsboro.

The bill makes it easier for people certified to work in certain fields by the military or military spouses licensed elsewhere to receive their certification in North Carolina. The new rules are to be implemented within the next year.

Perdue now has seven bills left from the Legislature since it adjourned three weeks ago. She has until Aug. 2 to sign them, veto them or let them become law without her signature.
