Perdue, defense firms warn of $1 trillion in cuts

READ MORE:

CARY, NC (AP) -- The building drumbeat of companies seeking to protect their Pentagon revenues is building at a North Carolina event opposing more than $1 trillion in budget cuts slashing both domestic and defense programs.

Aerospace and defense industry executives are meeting in Cary on Wednesday to draw attention to the cuts looming at the end of the year unless Congress acts. Gov. Beverly Perdue adds that the cuts also are poised to harm schools and other domestic priorities.

A U.S. Senate committee report says North Carolina will lose health screenings, education, senior nutrition, veteran's services and employment help worth more than $100 million.

The $1 trillion in automatic cuts to domestic and military programs over a decade were agreed to last summer by congressional Republican leaders and President Barack Obama.
