READ MORE: Small businesses say tax-free weekend is an early Christmas

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Tax-free weekend has moved Black Friday into August, and small business owners are preparing to pass the savings on to you.

The sales tax holiday is intended to help ease the cost of back-to-school shopping, but for bargain hunters and local business owners, it's Christmas come early.

"Tax-free weekend is definitely a boom to small business owners," said Susan Kadar, owner of Your Computer Friends in Wilmington.

Phones are ringing off the hook at her store to place orders.

"For a small business owner like myself, being able to sell computers at this time of year tax free is a big initiative," Kadar said. "I probably expect to sell four or five times as many computers in the next few days."

At children's clothing consignment store Once Upon a Child, employees are working overtime to prepare for the rush.

"I'm sure we'll be very busy, because this is really our christmas," store manager Vicki Cook said.

Work that is necessary to ensure that customers can find the latest fashions for Back to School.

"Definitely denim. Jeans are a hot item all of the time, but we also have khaki pants, polos and things for school uniforms," Cook said.

Making tax-free weekend not only a fix for your wardrobe, but the local economy as well.

"Tax-free weekend is great for small, locally-owned businesses," Cook said. "We love it and wish it would happen more."
