in Vieques, Puerto Rico, the US Navy dropped around 1 trillion pounds of explosives over 1/2 century of bombing practice here; napalm, conventional weapons and depleted uranium projectiles; Vieques has 30% higher cancer case rate than the rest of Puerto Rico... together with exagerrated levels of respiratory illnesses, heart problems, diabetes, among other ills...
however, the Navy and Obama deny any relationship between US military toxics and our health crisis....
the president did send campaign officials here during the D party primaries... and a letter to PR governor just before the elections promising a serious effort to alleviate Vieques situation...
the people of Vieques are made of the same stuff as the people who got sick from military carelessness at Camp Lejeune...
hate to accuse the pres. of environmental racism... but... what else are we to think?
