WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Tourism money is good money, it is a green and giving industry that every community wants. In North Carolina tourism spending is up, here in the Cape Fear we are cashing in.

In North Carolina tourism is growing. State wide every county is up in visitor spending for a total of 18 billion dollars.

Locally it breaks down like this:

In New Hanover County, spending in 2011 was more than 425 million dollars for an increase of 6.23 percent. Visitors flocked to attractions like the battleship, Bellamy mansion, the North Carolina aquarium and the beaches.

The Brunswick County, 2011 spending was over 418 million dollars, an increase of 5.73 percent. For attractions like Southport, Bald Head Island and the beaches.

In Pender County, 2011 spending totaled more than 76 million dollars, an increase of 4.89 percent.

More people like to visit North Carolina and we are seeing our share. These numbers are from 2011, this year looks good when you factor in a special sector for us, movie tourism. When big shows shoot here, people spend here just to watch.
