Man charged with shooting in Clarkton


BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- A Bladen County man is in jail after a shooting last night in Clarkton.

Sheriff Prentis Benston told WWAY a call came in to 911 at 6:22 p.m. Deputies went to a house in Clarkton, where they found a 51-year-old black man who had been shot in the head.

The victim was air lifted to New Hanover Regional Medical Center with life threatening injuries.
His identity has not yet been released, but the Sheriff's Office says the man was in critical condition this morning.

Deputies arrested Jesse Earl Simpson, 49, for the shooting. Simpson has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill and inflicting serious injury. He is in the Bladen County Jail under a $50,000 secured bond. His first appearance was scheduled for today.
