WILMINGTON,NC -- (Greater Wilmington Business Journal news release) -- Roy Williams, University of North Carolina’s head basketball coach, will speak October 8th at a Power Lunch at the Wilmington Convention Center.
In partnership with the Greater Wilmington Sports Hall of Fame, the Greater Wilmington Business Journal presents “Lunch With Roy Williams” as part of the Business Journal’s Power Breakfast Series. The event will also serve as the launch of the Hall of Fame’s newest initiative, the Greater Wilmington Sports Club.
Greater Wilmington Sports Club will hold a lunch with speakers on the first Friday of each month from September through May, providing opportunities to hear from influential high school, college and professional sports figures. Members and sponsors of the Greater Wilmington Sports Club will also support young people engaged in athletics through the Greater Wilmington Sports Hall of Fame scholarship program.
Roy Williams owns two NCAA championships and the best winning percentage of any active coach. He is in his 10th season at Carolina and his 25th overall as one of the best college coaches of all time. Williams led Kansas and UNC to the Final Four five times. Last season, he led Carolina to the NCAA Elite 8 for the sixth time in nine seasons in Chapel Hill.
“A top-notch recruiter and motivator, Williams coaches with an unflappable cool, a trait reflected in his players’ calm on the court,” according to a Forbes Magazine 2009 feature naming Roy Williams the nation’s top college basketball coach.

GREENSBORO,NC (AP) -- It took an extra day to complete play but Sergio Garcia has won the PGA's Windham Championship. He completed his rain-delayed fourth round today at 4-under-66 to finish the tournament 18-under par. Play was called yesterday because of rain at the Greensboro, N.C., course. Tim Clark finished two shots back of Garcia, who claimed his first PGA Tour victory since the 2008 Players Championship.
WILMINGTON,NC (UNCW sports release) -- UNCW senior keeper Caitlin Hunter was named Colonial Athletic Association Women's Soccer Co-Player-of-the-Week on Monday.
Hunter was also recognized by College Sports Madness, earning CAA Player-of-the-Week accolades from the online publication.
"Caitlin came up big at several points over the weekend at the Hokie Invitational," said UNCW Head Coach Paul Cairney. "She played with great confidence and allowed our team to stay in our games against two quality opponents in Virginia Tech and Wake Forest. Her attention to detail as she prepares for games definitely helped her have success last weekend. Our whole team was great defensively and they share this recognition with Caitlin."
Hunter allowed just one goal in 211:37 to lead the Seahawks to a 0-1-1 result against two ranked opponents at the Hilton Garden Inn Hokie Invitational in Blacksburg, Va., last weekend. The Ashburn, Va., product made six saves in a 1-0 double overtime loss to No. 22 Virginia Tech on Friday before posting 10 saves in a 0-0 draw against No. 3 Wake Forest Sunday to record her eighth career shutout.
UNCW (0-1-1) returns to action Aug. 26 as it travels to No. 7 Virginia for a 2 p.m. contest.
