WILMINGTON, NC (StarNewsOnline.com) -- The New York Times (or at least one of its blogs) says that a new book co-authored by a StarNews staffer “promises to be one of the biggest books of the year, with the potential to affect the presidential campaign in the final weeks before the election.”

The book is “No Easy Day: The Firsthand Account of the Mission That Killed Osama Bin Laden,” to be published Sept. 11 by Dutton. The co-author is StarNews local news editor Kevin Maurer, who before joining the newspaper was embedded six times with US Army Special Forces in Afghanistan.

Maurer isn't the firsthand source; that's a former team leader with US Navy Seal Team Six, who served in the operation that resulted in the death of the al-Qaida leader on May 2, 2011, in Abbottabad, Pakistan. According to the publisher, he was present at bin Laden's death.
