DUBLIN, NC (WWAY) – A small town in Bladen County grew in size over the weekend thanks to the local love of legumes.
According to event organizers close to eight thousand visitors came to the tiny town of Dublin for the 20th annual Peanut Festival.
The festival celebrates the history of the peanut and includes a peanut cook off.
Attendees also got the pleasure of listening to live bands and showing off their dance moves.
"The money goes to Dublin elementary school and we help other schools throughout our county also with these funds,” said festival president Donnie Todd. This is the only festival I know in the county that takes their money and turns it right back into the county. We don't keep any of the money."
Scholarships are given out by the Peanut Festival to Bladen County High School students to help offset the cost of college.
