I'm sure mayor and council would like to breathe a sigh of relief but it's probably a little late for that.
Even if they now take their hands off the tiller, they're still going to be responsible for either having run the ship aground or at the very least endangered it by having sailed too close to the shore during a time of storm. Add the Convention Center debacle to the mix and there's only a small chance they'll escape politically unharmed.
If I were them, I would have every reason to be afraid, very afraid.
