Closing statements made in Jeffrey MacDonald case

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Attorneys made closing statements today in the Jeffrey MacDonald hearing in federal court. Though the hearing is done, it may be a while before we know if the 68-year-old will get another trial.

After the defense and prosecution get transcripts of the hearing, the judge is giving both side a 60-day briefing period before any final decision can be made.

MacDonald, a former Green Beret doctor, is serving three life sentences after being convicted in 1979 of murdering his pregnant wife and two little girls. He maintains that intruders killed his family.

MacDonald hopes new DNA evidence and witness statements will help prove his innocence if the judge grants him a second trial.
