Investigators: Alcohol a factor in early-morning boat crash

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) -- In Wrightsville Beach, it was an early morning for emergency responders after a boating accident in the Intracoastal Waterway.

Investigators say alcohol was a factor when two boats crashed into each other at high speeds around 2:30 a.m. near Banks Channel.

The Coast Guard says one of the boats involved in the accident capsized tossing five passengers into the water. Witnesses say the passengers had visible injuries, including a broken nose, and are lucky to be alive, because of the severity of the accident and how dark it was on the water.

Sea Tow says the capsized boat is totaled.

The boaters involved could face charges.
