WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- New details tonight about questions into the residency of a New Hanover County Commission hopeful.

Business owner Justin LaNasa has challenged Melissa Gott's residency with the Board of Elections. According to the paperwork he turned in, LaNasa claims Gott is not a resident of the county, city or voting precinct she claims.

The New Hanover County GOP nominated Gott last week to fill the county commission seat left empty when Ted Davis replaced Danny McComas in the NC House of Representatives. New Hanover County Commissioners decided not to approve the nomination and ask the party to investigate after questions about Gott's residency arose.

Earlier this week, the GOP gave commissioners affidavits and other information that Gott lives in a home on Chestnut Street in Wilmington and not a home she owns in Leland.

LaNasa, who owns Hardwire Tattoo downtown and has been a frequent but unsuccessful political candidate, is currently running for New Hanover County Soil and Water Conservation Supervisor.
