Mrs. Obama urges NC college students to vote early

Associated Press

CHAPEL HILL, NC (AP) -- Michelle Obama wants North Carolina college students to work hard for her husband, making sure they and their friends cast ballots as the battleground state prepares for early voting.

The first lady on Tuesday reminded thousands of students packing Carmichael Arena at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill that President Barack Obama carried the state four years ago by just 14,000 votes, which she said broke down to just five votes per precinct. She challenged each student there to personally round up five votes to help re-elect the president.

Mrs. Obama spoke just hours before her husband and Republican nominee Mitt Romney are scheduled to hold a televised debate in New York. She said she cast her own early ballot Monday, voting for her husband.
