We elect judges, district attorneys and sheriffs. Each of these offices require a candidate to have credentials in law or law enforcement in order to be eligible to run.
A great deal of authority is placed in the hands of a town (or city, or county) manager. The voting, taxpaying public should have a say in who holds these jobs.
