The Seahawks improved to 9-14 overall as they closed out the non-conference portion of their 2012 schedule with the sweep of the Eagles, who slipped to 5-19 on the season. Laite highlighted a balanced UNCW attack that combined for 41 kills and a .276 hitting percentage as senior Jennifer Mallard and sophomore McKenzie Keightley tallied nine spikes apiece. Freshman setter Victoria Phillips dished out 21 assists and added a match-high 14 digs to record her fourth double-double of the season while senior Natalie Lahaie added 14 digs and seven digs. Junior Haley Collins joined Phillips in double-digit digs as she finished with 12. Freshman Christine Anthony notched 11 kills and sophomore Dayana Arrufat Rondon added seven spikes for NCCU, who was limited to a .104 hitting percentage for the match. Anthony added 11 digs to finish with a double-double while junior Kalin Russell pitched in 10. Sophomore setter Alice Genna handed out a team-high 22 assists. UNCW cruised to a 25-14 victory in the first set, racing out to an early 8-2 lead before notching five of the final six points of the frame to record the 11-point win. UNCW posted a .314 hitting percentage in the frame, notching 12 kills and committing just one attack error in 35 total attempts. The Seahawks continued to control play in the second set, racing out to an 11-3 lead on their way to building a 19-10 advantage. The Eagles would pull within six, 24-18, late in the frame, but a service error by NCCU would give UNCW a 25-18 decision and a 2-0 lead. The third set saw the Seahawks down 7-6 early when a kill by Keightley sent the Seahawks on a 13-5 run that would put them ahead, 19-12. NCCU would make one last push; tallying seven of the next 11 points to make it a 23-19 contest, only to see a kill by Laite and a service ace by Collins propel UNCW to a 25-19 victory and the match. The Seahawks once again posted a solid hitting percentage in the final frame, posting 17 kills and just five errors in 33 total attempts for a .364 attack clip. Both teams return to action Friday. UNCW hosts George Mason in a Colonial Athletic Association contest while NCCU entertains North Carolina A&T in MEAC competition. Both matches are slated for a 7 p.m. start. --------------------- RALEIGH, NC (AP) - Chris Bosh scored 21 points to help the Miami Heat beat the Charlotte Bobcats 98-92 in a preseason game Tuesday night.
