READ MORE:

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The New Hanover County Sheriff's Office has charged a 14-year-old boy after he allegedly injured another student at New Hanover High School this morning.

Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Jerry Brewer says around 8:15 a.m., the suspect, whose name is not being released because he is a juvenile, threw an aluminum coffee mug from the fifth floor of the school. Brewer says the mug hit another boy on the head in the courtyard below. Brewer says the student was taken to the hospital, received six staples and was released.

The suspect is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to cause serious injury.
