WPD seizes Mercedes after driver wouldn't stop, caught with drugs, beer

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Wilmington Police seized a man's luxury car, after they say he drove off when they tried to pull him over last night.

WPD says a patrol officer was running radar in the 2100 block of Market Street and saw a Mercedes going 61 mph in a 35 mph zone. When the officer went after the Mercedes, the driver made a quick left onto 21st Street and then a right on Wolcott Street accelerating the entire time, police say.

Police say Shawn Lamont Morant, 37, finally pulled over at Wolcott and 20th street. The officer noticed the smell of marijuana in the car and found the drug during a search along with drug paraphernalia and several empty beer bottles. Police say one of the bottles was thrown from the car before it stopped.

Police arrested Morant and his passenger, Aeisha Milton, 24.

Morant is charged with reckless driving to endanger, speeding, possession with intent to manufacture/sell/distribute (PWIMSD) schedule VI (marijuana), felony speeding to elude arrest with aggravating factors, driving while license revoked. He was also cited for open container after consumption. He posted a $10,000 bond and was released from jail.

Police because of his previous criminal history and the flee to elude charge, they seized Morant's Mercedes.

Milton is charged with PWIMSD schedule VI and was released on a $4,000.
