WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Special Olympics athletes kicked off their fall games this morning at Wilmington's Legion Stadium Complex.
From bocce ball and races to soccer and tennis, athletes from around the region worked on honing their skills and making new friends. Organizers say socializing is one of the most important parts of the games.
"I'm hoping they just have a good time," coordinator Tiffany Lesley said. "That's what today for me is all about. I want everyone to leave here after having fun. Just having the best time and learning something new."
Participants could place first, second or third in their selected events, but volunteers say everyone who tried was a winner.
