READ MORE:

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Federal prosecutors say a former National Cancer Institute employee who used government credit cards to buy personal items is facing six months in federal prison.

The Asheville Citizen-Times reports (http://avlne.ws/XoUplB) 34-year-old Jihan S. Cover of Arden also faces six months of home confinement. She was ordered by a U.S. District Court judge this week to pay $114,494 in restitution to the Department of Health and Human Services.

Cover pleaded guilty in August 2011 to theft of government property,

Court records say Cover used government credit cards between June 2009 and December 2010 to make more than 250 unauthorized purchases. Prosecutors say she tried to hide the fraud by submitting dispute forms to the bank servicing the cards. They say she told investigators she'd reimbursed the government for the unauthorized transactions.
