Landfall Tradition is a washout

READ MORE:

WILMINGTON, NC (UNCW) -- Oklahoma State was declared champion of The Landfall Tradition women’s golf tournament early Sunday after Hurricane Sandy dumped heavy rain overnight on the Country Club of Landfall’s Jack Nicklaus course.

The 17 teams and five individuals enjoyed good weather during Friday’s opening round before running into Sandy’s rains and high winds yesterday and completing 9-12 holes in difficult conditions. The field was hoping to complete the second round early Sunday, but conditions warranted otherwise.

As a result, OSU finishes with a 293 score, one stroke in front of Duke and two strokes ahead of Purdue and Texas Tech. It’s the first Landfall title for the Cowgirls in the 11-year history of the event.

Texas Tech senior Kim Kaufman was the medalist with a 5-under-par 67 in the first round, matching the tournament record for opening round score.
