WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Less than a week before Election Day, many people are taking full advantage of One Stop Voting. Voters say because of early voting, there is no excuse not to make your voice heard.

"We have a privilege to take advantage of being able to vote early," voter Jesslyn Allen said. "Other states can't do that, so just for time and convenience. It just makes more sense."

And a good number of voters have taken advantage of One Stop Voting. Columbus County says more than 20 percent of its registered voters have already cast their ballots. In New Hanover County, more than 34,000 people have voted, and more than 30,000 in Brunswick County. Pender County says close to 13,000 have gone to the poll already, and Bladen is reporting more than 6,000.

Most voters we spoke with said they decided to vote early so they could get in and out and avoid the long lines on Election Day. With such high numbers of early voters, though, longer lines have already been forming. But voters and poll workers say the lines move quickly.

"It's a great location, and we got the equipment we need," poll supervisor Richard Teeter said. "People just seem to flow in and out. We probably haven't had anybody wait more than 30 minutes, at the max."

Some confusion by voters has been reported, but overall the boards of elections from our region say early voting has been running smoothly.

Some voters, though, have reported that their votes have not been recorded correctly. The boards of elections in multiple counties say whenever there is an issue, they correct it immediately to maintain the integrity of early voting.
