Its called the Capt made a STUPID DECISION to try and sail south right into a bloody Hurricane!!! Hundreds of ships sank off the US Coast built in similar manner over a 200 yr period. Reality is the Capt was more focused on getting back to St Petersburg FL (What some may not know is they left from Rhode Island only a couple days before Sandy was due to hit) due to some artificial deadline he was focused on instead of the safety of the boat and crew. The newsmedia in Tampa/St Pete has been all over this and the overwhelming response is that the Capt made a very very poor decision ultimately. Based on the track either staying put or possibly sailing a 100 mi or so North would have kept the ship safe and they still might have made it back to St Petersburg in time for this deadline for some celebration that was going on. Instead, the Captain likely went down with his ship, another crew member died, and a popular 'living' movie prop is at the bottom of the Atlantic.
