Former Catawba soccer coach faces new charges

CHARLOTTE, NC (AP) -- A former soccer coach at Catawba College now faces new charges of inappropriate sexual contact with a minor.

Sixty-nine-year-old Ralph William Wager of Charlotte was charged Thursday with three felony counts of taking indecent liberties with a child.

The charges stem from incidents that allegedly occurred in 1990. The Rowan County Sheriff's Office says the boy was 13 years old at the time.

Wager was first arrested in July on charges that he had inappropriate contact with a youth in the 1980s.

Wager was the head soccer coach at Catawba College in Salisbury at the time of the alleged contacts.

Authorities said the first accuser was between the ages of 9 and 11 at the time. Officials say the student was participating in another sports program at the college.
